Acts of Violence

Cover for a crime comic anthology put together by Ed Brisson and co. I love straight-up crime fiction and these four short stories are top notch!

Wraparound:

PS: I'm into their sharp new suits, but I hope Lupo and Bernard grow their beards back on Law & Order.

They're putting together a sketchbook giveaway with pieces from all the attending artists. The theme is "sequels."

site change

Switched over to hosting on blogger instead of my own server, so I can finally have that vital "older posts" link and list of extremely useful labels. Um... everything should work, but please tell me if I need to fix something. RSS followers may need to re-subscribe?

Eventually, I will probably get around to making a new header image, too. And updating my gallery page and putting that back up. All in good time, friends.

Archie Andrews

This is an unfinished piece from a while ago. Obviously Betty and Veronica were supposed to be included, but realistically, I'm not likely to finish this so I thought I'd just post it as is.

Besides, is Archie not just in love with the concept of love?

HEAT

Jeff Martin from Edmonton has a new webcomic called HEAT: The Space Age of Pro Wrestling. It's off to a great start and I suggest you jump on now!

Pea to the Nut 3

My friend Chad Veinot started this webcomic called "Pea to the Nut," but so far he's only made one.

Vince Smith recently drew another installment.

Last night at drink & draw I decided to get in on the action, but of course I couldn't remember the proper format of the strip or really what the characters were supposed to look like. Oh well!

Oh oh oh!

You can see a page from the new book I'm doing for IDW over at Chris Ryall's blog. He doesn't name the title or writer, but internet sleuths could figure it out if they really cared to.

I will name the editor. It's Bob Schreck! Holy cow!

Kevin Seccia, fanfiction writer

My friend Kevin saw the portrait I did of Mike Costa and became consumed with envy. He wanted one of himself that captured his "roguish charm and zeal for life." But it was hard enough just to get it to look remotely like him... the best I could manage was an expression of deep self-satisfaction. I may not have done his roguish charm justice, but it's there in real life.

Anyway, I don't work for free, so in the mercenary spirit I made Kevin write a Big Trouble in Little China fanfic in exchange for his picture. I gave him an hour to write it. I just thought it would be funny to see a professional writer struggle with a stupid task, but joke's on me, because his story is actually VERY entertaining. You can read it HERE!

ImagineFX mag

I did another workshop for the current issue of IFX (#52), this time on comics storytelling.

I've also been a regular contributor to their Q&A section, where readers send in questions like, How do I draw the wet end of a severed limb? and How can I make my zombie look sexy? I couldn't make up better questions. Their readers are great.

Mike Costa

This handsome fellow is the writer of Hawksmoor (remember?), and also Resistance, G.I. JOE: Cobra, and Transformers. He wanted a drawing for his Facebook or something.

Mike looks roughly this intense in real life, especially if you get him talking about Cerebus (very easy to do).

it will also be my epitaph

Marvel just put out this one-shot, a collection of the various Wolverine Art Appreciation variant covers and bios/interviews/comments from the contributing artists.

Anyway, the important thing is what they came up with for my bio:

I didn't send them that quote, they found it on their own- which means it's my OFFICIAL REPUTATION now. Thank you Scott.

Prince Charles cake

Nick and Vince share a birthday with His Highness and used his photo on the Facebook event thingy, so I made this themed cake for the party last night.

It's all edible except for the crown:

Don't say it looks like George Bush! This cake took freaking forever and you're not allowed.

Coffee run

This is a piece for a Wolverine-themed art auction to raise funds for the Joe Shuster Awards. They should be putting the prints on eBay sometime this month.

I wanted to draw Wolverine doing something mundane and Canadian, and I wanted to draw a leather jacket. Also, pay attention everyone- I've found a new way to avoid drawing feet!
